Greenfinces in trouble.

I live in sheltered accommodation and my first floor flat overlooks the front garden of the complex.  On the tree in the lawn I have hung bird feeders which are visited all the time by a wonderful variety of birds which give me so much pleasure by their comings and goings and not only me but the residents too enjoy watching their antics  Recently we have noticed that green finches are dying and we have had to bury them which has been very distressing for us.  Now I have found out that they are being affected by a disease which is attacking them and causing their deaths.  On seeking a remedy.I have been advised to stop feeding them and giving them water for 2 months so that they will disperse away from this area.  As you can possibly imagine this news has not come without a great deal of sadness.for they are so much a part of our daily lives that to deprive them of food and water is not a happy thought.
Tomorrow I shall begin the process of removing the feeders and the bird bath and begin to disinfect everything before storing them until such times as it is deemed safe to once again return them to their accustomed places.
Today has not been my happiest day even 'though I had the pleasure of a visit from my dear son.
